## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT DEPARTED ON RUNWAY 33 AT APPROXIMATELY 2330Z AND CLIMBED TO APPROXIMATELY 200' AGL (220' MSL) WHEN IT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER, FOLLOWED BY AN ENGINE FAILURE. THE PILOT ESTABLISHED A GLIDE AND BEGAN A TURN TO THE WEST TO THE ONLY AVAILABLE FIELD. PILOT PERFORMED AN EMERGENCY LANDING TO THE OPEN FIELD AND UPON TOUCHDOWN OF THE FIXED MAIN LANDING GEAR SHEARED THE RIGHT MAIL GEAR OFF AT THE STRUT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST UPRIGHT. THERE WAS NO POST CRASH FIRE AND BOTH THE PILOT AND PASSENGER EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INJURY. AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO WINGS, LANDING GEAR, AND EMPENNAGE. POST CRASH ENGINE RUN FOUND THE ENGINE WOULD ONLY CONTINUE TO RUN WITH THE AUXILLARY FUEL PUMP SUPPLYING FUEL, AND WOULD NOT RUN ON ENGINE DRIVEN FUEL PUMP.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR09CA349](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR09CA349), Jul 15, 2009: Evektor-Aerotechnik Sportstar (N827EV), Snohomish, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A complete loss of engine power due to the failure of the airplane's engine-driven fuel pump.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
