## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND, THE PILOT OF N5556S, FAILED TO USE THE PROPER APPROACH SPEED AND FAILED TO MAINTAIN A PROPER PITCH ATTITUDE TO ACCOMPLISH A SUCCESSFUL LANDING. UPON THE INITIAL TOUCHDOWN, HE LANDED ON ALL THREE LANDING GEAR SIMULATANEOUSLY. THIS RESULTED IN THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCING BACK INTO THE AIR. THE PILOT DID NOT ATTEMPT A GO-AROUND BUT FELT COMMITTED TO LAND. ON THE FOURTH BOUNCE, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK IN A NOSE WHEEL ATTITUDE AND DAMAGED THE PROPELLER, NOSE WHEEL AND THE FIREWALL. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED. THE PILOT IS A LOW TIME STUDENT PILOT AND FAILED TO ABORT THE LANDING AND GO-AROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA458](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA458), Jul 18, 2009: Cessna 172M (N5556S), New Braunfels, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate recovery from a bounced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
