## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JULY 23, 2009 AT 1235 LOCAL TIME, A BEECHCRAFT BE-C90, N405DD OWNED AND OPERATED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE DURING TAKEOFF AT BISMARCK, ND. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED TO THE CREW OF TWO OR PASSENGER ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT. SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF PASSING THROUGH 300 FT. AGL THE CABIN DOOR OPENED CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE DOOR, DOOR ASSEMBLY AND FUSELAGE. THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. AFTER VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE DOOR AND CONSULATION WITH TECHANICAL PERSONNEL FROM HAWKER BEECHCRAFT IT WAS DETERMINED THAT DOOR WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN IN FLIGHT HAD IT BEEN PROPERLY SECURED PRIOR TO TAKEOFF.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA470](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA470), Jul 23, 2009: Raytheon C90A (N405DD), Bismarck, ND, substantial damage. Probable cause: The cabin entry door inadvertently opening during initial climb.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
