## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON A PART 91 FLIGHT FROM SLATON (F49) TO ABERNATHY, TEXAS (F83), N11EN, A MAULE M4-220C LANDED HARD CAUSING A COMPROMISE OF THE STRUCTURAL TUBING. THE "H" TUBING LOCATED BELOW THE COPILOT SEAT BENT WHEN THE TUBING ON THE FORWARD RIGHT POST BEAM SEPARATED DUE TO CORROSION. THE STRUCTURAL STRESS FROM THE SEPARATION OF THE POST BEAM WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE "H" STRUCTURE, WHICH ALSO FAILED. EXAMINATION OF THE SEPARATED TUBING REVEALED THE TUBE WAS COMPLETELY FILLED WITH CORROSION. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNDETECTED CORROSION OF THE STRUCTURAL TUBING WELD POINT. TWO PERSONS WERE ON BOARD. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA521](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA521), Jul 25, 2009: Maule M-4-220C (N11EN), Abernathy, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the fuselage's tube structure due to corrosion during a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
