## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE PERFORMING INSTRUCTION UNDER CFR PART 141, A SIMULATED AUTOROTATION WAS INITIATED. THE MANEUVER CONCLUDED WITH THE HELICOPTER EXPERIENCING A HARD LANDING. THE LOWER ENGINE MOUNT FRAME WAS DAMAGED FROM BUCKLING. AFTER INVESTIGATION AND CORRESPONDENCE WITH ROBINSON HELICOPTER, NTSB DETERMINED THE STATUS TO BE AN ACCIDENT. FAA OPS INSPECTORS HAVE INTERVIEWED AND COUNSELED THE INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR09CA377](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR09CA377), Jul 27, 2009: Robinson Helicopter R22 Beta (N8340S), Troutdale, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper use of the collective control and the flight instructor’s delayed reaction to the student pilot’s incorrect control inputs.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
