## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JULY 28, 2009, AT 16:04 EDT A CESSNA 150 RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE RESULTING FROM THE ENGINE QUITTING AND LANDING IN A FIELD APPROXIMATELY 2-3 MILES WNW OF LEXINGTON, KY AIRPORT (LEX). THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED UNDER VFR CONDITIONS, 14 CFR 91. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE HAD FLOWN TO OWENSBORO, KY FOR LUNCH. AT ABOUT 10 MILES OUT FROM LEX ON THE RETURN TRIP THE ENGINE STARTED TO LOOSE POWER SO I PULLED CARB HEAT AND PUSHED THE THROTTLE AND MIXTURE IN. THE ENGINE REGAINED POWER AND RAN SMOOTH FOR ABOUT ONE MINUTE. THE ENGINE BEGAN LOSING POWER AGAIN. I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GLIDE TO RUNWAY 4 OR 22 APPROACHING FROM THE WEST. THE BEST FIELD WAS TO THE NORTH AND WITHIN GLIDDING DISTANCE. THERE WAS NO POST CRASH FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
