## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRMAN MADE TWO LOW RECONS OVER THE LANDING AREA PRIOR TO LANDING TO ASSESS CONDITIONS AND USED HIS GPS TO DETERMINE THE WIND DIRECTION AND VELOCITY. HE MADE THE FINAL APPROACH INTO A LIGHT HEADWIND OVER A DOWNSLOPING HILL. HIS LEFT LANDING GEAR AND BELLY POD MADE CONTACT WITH A STUMP OBSCURED BY HIGH GRASS, CAUSING A SUDDEN STOPPAGE AND FLIPPING THE AIRCRAFT ONTO IT'S BACK. THE AIRMAN WAS ABLE TO GET OUT, RIGHT THE AIRCRAFT, AND SUMMON ASSISTANCE BY CELL PHONE. THE AIRMAN SUSTAINED ONLY MINOR INJURIES. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC09CA076](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC09CA076), Aug 2, 2009: Piper PA-18 (N7509K), Skwentna, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s misjudged landing on a downsloping, short landing strip, resulting in a nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
