## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 4, 2009 PINNACLE AIRLINES FLIGHT 2871 OPERATED AS NORTHWEST AIRLINK WHILE ENROUTE FROM KNOXVILLE, TN TO DETROIT, MI ENCOUNTERED SEVERE TURBULENCE WHILE CRUISING AT 30,000 FEET. MULTIPLE INJURIES ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT REQUIRED THE FLIGHT CREW TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING AT LOUISVILLE, KY (SDF). THE INJURED FLIGHT ATTENDANT WAS TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL WITH SEVERE INJURIES, ONE PASSENGER WAS TREATED AND RELEASED AT THE SCENE. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE AIRCRAFT APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR AFTER THE AIRCRAFT LANDED, THE FLIGHT CREW HAD NOT MADE ANY ENTRIES IN THE AIRCRAFT LOGBOOK INDICATING THE AIRCRAFT HAD ENCOUNTERED SEVERE TURBULENCE OR DAMAGED TO THE OVERHEAD PANEL. AFTER BRINGING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE FIRST OFFICER, HE MADE THE ENTRIES IN THE AIRCRAFT LOG BOOK. THE ON SITE INVESTIGATION WAS COMPLETED AND AT 2230 AAI 100 WAS BRIEFED ON THE SITUATION. ON 5 AUGUST 2009, THE THE PMI FOR PINNACLE AIRLINES, INC WAS CONTACTED AND MADE AWARE OF THE ACCIDENT. ON AUGUST 6, 2009, I CORRESPONDED WITH NTSB INVESTIGATOR, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^. AT THAT TIME, SHE SAID THE THE INCIDENT HAD BEEN UPGRADED TO AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE EXTENT OF THE INJURIES TO THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT. I ALSO ASKED IF SHE NEEDED ANY SUPPORT FROM ME AND NO RESPONSE WAS RECEIVED. 8/20/2009- RECEIVED THE CERTIFIED WEATHER REPORT FROM MEMPHIS ARTCC. 8/28/2009- COMPLETED MY INVESTIGATION CONCERNING THE FAA'S NINE RESPONSIBILITIES PER FAA ORDER 8020-11. AT THIS TIME NONE APPEAR TO BE A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT. COMPLETED THE 8020-23 AND SUBMITTED TO THE NTSB.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
