## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS PIC AND THE ONLY OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. HE STATED THAT DURING THE TAKEOFF ROLL HE APPLIED CROSSWIND CORRECTIONS FOR A LEFT QUARTERING HEADWIND BUT DID NOT EXPERIENCE THE "BUFFETING" ASSOCIATED WITH GUSTY CONDITIONS. AFTER TAKEOFF THE AIRCRAFT CRABBED INTO THE WIND TO MAINTAIN RUNWAY ALIGNMENT UNTIL A LARGE GUST FORCED THE RIGHT WING DOWN CAUSING THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR AND WINGTIP TO STRIKE THE GROUND. THE AIRPLANE TURNED RIGHT EXITING THE RUNWAY CONTINUING DOWN AN EMBANKMENT BEFORE STRIKING THE AIRPORT BOUNDARY FENCE AND COMING TO A STOP. WITNESS STATEMENTS CONCUR WITH THE PILOT'S DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCIDENT. THE ASOS AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTING WIND 260 AT 18 GUSTING TO 22 WITH PEAK GUST OF 250 AT 29 AND A DENSITY ALTITUDE OF 8300'.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate compensation for the crosswind gust and failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during the takeoff. Contributing to the accident was the gusty crosswind weather…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
