## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT WAS NEAR GROSS WEIGHT ON HIGH DENSITY ALTITUDE DAY. THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT HAVE THE PERFORMANCE TO CLIMB HIGH ENOUGH TO GET THROUGH THE MOUNTAIN PASS. THE AIRCRAFTS RIGHT WING STRUCK THE GROUND RESULTING IN A HARD LANDING, AND THE RIGHT WING BEING BROKEN BACKWARD. POST CRASH FIRE CONSUMED THE AIRCRAFT. DENSITY ALTITUDE WAS ABOUT 10,700 FEET, WITH A PERFORMANCE SEILING OF ABOUT 9,500 TO 10,000 FEET.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR09FA379](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR09FA379), Aug 7, 2009: Piper PA-22-150 (N6905B), Saint Charles, ID, destroyed, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain terrain clearance while maneuvering.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
