## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 08/07/2009 AT APPROXIMATELY 0700MDT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS ACTING AS PILOT IN COMMAND OF N84787, AN AERONCA 7AC. DURING THE FLIGHT WHILE OPERATING CLOSE TO THE GROUND, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ IMPACTED THE GROUND WITH THE RIGHT WING. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE, HOWEVER THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES TO THE PILOT OR HIS ONE PASSENGER. ACCORDING TO ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATEMENT, HE DEPARTED HIS RANCH STRIP 20 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. THE PURPOSE OF THE FLIGHT WAS TO CHECK HIS SHEEP. HE STATED THAT THE WEATHER WAS GOOD, CALM WINDS, AND TEMPERATURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT OAT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE HAD CHECKED SOME SHEEP AND WAS CIRCLING TO THE RIGHT ABOVE SOME TREES. HE WAS IN A DESCENDING TURN. AS HE FELT THE RIGHT WING DIP HE ADDED POWER, HOWEVER, THE WING STALLED AND IMPACTED THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR09CA388](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR09CA388), Aug 7, 2009: Aeronca 7AC (N84787), Broadus, MT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain sufficient airspeed during low altitude maneuvering, which resulted in an inadvertent stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
