## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING APPROACH TO RUNWAY 22 THE AIRCRAFT DESCENDED BELOW THE TREE LINE TO THE WEST OF THE APPROACH PATH. THE TREE LINE BLOCKED THE QUARTERING HEADWIND COMPONENT AND THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO LOOSE AIRSPEED AND SINK AT AN EXCESSIVE RATE. THE PILOT DID NOT CORRECT FOR THE EXCESSIVE SINK RATE IN TIME AND THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK RISING TERRAIN APPROXIMATELY 40' FROM PREPARED RUNWAY SURFACE, 400' FROM DISPLACED THRESHOLD CAUSING LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR TO COLLAPSE. THE AIRCRAFT SLID APPROXIMATELY 245' DOWN THE PREPARED RUNWAY SURFACE AND CAME TO REST ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY EDGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA513](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA513), Aug 9, 2009: Beech A36TC (N336TC), Brighton, MI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed and compensate for wind conditions during final approach.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
