## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS LANDING UPHILL AT HIS HUNTING CAMP NORTHWEST OF KOTZEBUE, A 900 FOOT STRIP WITH ABOUT A 20% GRADE. THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED ON LANDING. HE APPLIED BRAKES AND THEN ATTEMPTED A GO-AROUND. THE AIRCRAFT WAS AIRBORNE AT THE END OF THE STRIP. HE NOSED OVER INTO GROUND EFFECT WHEN THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED TO THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. UPON EXITING THE AIRCRAFT THE PILOT NOTICED THE WIND HAD CHANGED AT THE TOP OF THE STRIP TO A QUARTERING TAILWIND, COMPARED TO A HEADWIND DOWN THE VALLEY. ## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC09CA093](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC09CA093), Sep 7, 2009: Aeronca 15AC (N1187H), Kotzebue, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's delay in aborting the off-airport landing resulting in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
