## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AT 1441 CDT ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2009, N2929N, A CE0170-B WAS BEING OPERATED ON A VFR FLIGHT FROM CHEYENNE, WYOMING TO AMARILLO, TEXAS ON A PERSONAL FLIGHT. THE PILOT DECIDED TO LAND IN DALHART, TEXAS FOR FUEL. THE WINDS WERE INITIALLY REPORTED AS LIGHT AND VARIABLE ACCORDING TO THE AWOS. HE ENTERED THE PATTERN FOR RUNWAY 17 AND TOUCHED DOWN APPROXIMATELY 1000 FEET FROM THE APPROACH END OF THE RUNWAY. A SUDDEN WIND GUST CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO BECOME AIRBORNE DURING THE ROLLOUT. THE NOSE VEERED 45 DEGREES TO THE RIGHT AND TOUCHED DOWN HARD ON THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR CAUSING IT TO COLLAPSE AND SEPERATE FROM THE AIRCRAFT. THE LEFT WING CONTACTED THE RUNWAY AS THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED AND SLID ON THE LEFT FUSELAGE CAUSING THE LEFT WING STRUT TO FRACTURE. THE LEFT WING WAS PUSHED UPWARDS AS THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED SLIDING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FUSELAGE. THE AIRCRAFT SLID OFF THE WEST SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, AND CAME TO REST WITH THE NOSE FACING A NORTHERLY DIRECTION. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED, BUT HIS PASSENGER RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES AND WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL FOR EVALUATION AND LATER RELEASED WITH MINOR BRUISES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA585](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA585), Sep 11, 2009: Cessna 170B (N2929N), Dalhart, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s decision to land with a tailwind resulting in a loss of directional control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
