## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

SINCE THE PILOT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR AN INTERVIEW, THE HUSBAND PASSENGER (ALSO A PILOT BUT NOT OPERATING THE AIRCRAFT) REPRESENTED TO THE INVESTIGATING POLICE OFFICER THAT, AFTER DEPARTING RUNWAY 36 AT DUFORD AIRPORT (68G), THE AIRCRAFT (POWERED PARACHUTE) EXPERIENCED A GUST AND LOST LIFT. IN HIS STATEMENT TO THE FAA INSPECTOR, HE REPRESENTED THAT "THE PILOT TURNED INTO A CROSSWIND TO FIND LIFT BUT THE LIFT WAS INADEQUATE." IN ANY EVENT, THE AIRCRAFT LOST LIFT AND IMPACTED A TREE RESULTING IN TWO BROKEN LEGS FOR THE PILOT. THE PASSENGER DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES.(NOTE: ACCORDING TO AIRPORT OWNER, THERE WERE NO WITNESSES TO THE ACCIDENT.)

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA580](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA580), Sep 12, 2009: Alliant XLT-582 (N3284A), Genesee, MI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot failed to maintain clearance from the trees during takeoff into gusting winds.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
