## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRMAN LANDED ON A GRAVEL AIRSTRIP IN CHICKALOON, ALASKA. DURING THE ROLLOUT PHASE, THE AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER AFTER ENCOUNTERING AN UNFORSEEN SOFT SPOT ON THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC09CA099](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC09CA099), Sep 16, 2009: Piper PA-18 (N9840Q), Chickaloon, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's decision to land on unsuitable terrain, which resulted in a nose-over on landing.

## Other reports on N9840Q (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19771109042669A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19771109042669A), Nov 9, 1977: Piper PA18135 (N9840Q), AK, Substantial damage

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
