## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER TOUCHDOWN ON RUNWAY 21 AT FARMVILLE, VIRGINIA, THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE SURGED AND THE AIRCRAFT VEERED TO THE LEFT OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED ACROSS THE GRASS AND ACROSS A SHALLOW DITCH, STRUCK THE AIRPORT VASI, AND STRUCK A HEDGEROW OF TREES AND BRUSH. THE PATH OF THE AIRCRAFT FROM THE POINT IT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY TO THE POINT IT CAME AT REST SHOWED NO SIGNS OF BRAKING OR SKIDDING. THE SECTION OF LEFT WING OUTBOARD OF THE FUEL TANK STRUCK A TREE AND BROKE OFF. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED THROUGH THE HEDGEROW TURNING SHARPLY TO THE RIGHT AND CAME TO REST ON ITS WHEELS AND FACING THE RUNWAY. PRELIMINARY INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE, THROTTLE, AND PROPELLER CONTROLS REVEALED NOTHING ABNORMAL. INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT RECORDS FOUND NOTHING OTHER THAN ROUTINE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. FURTHER INVESTIGATION OF THE PROPELLER FUNCTION IS PENDING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09LA528](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09LA528), Sep 18, 2009: Mooney M20K (N999DJ), Farmville, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during the landing rollout.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
