## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRMAN, WHILE LANDING ON RUNWAY 18, BOUNCED AND FAILED TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. THE AIRCRAFT LEFT THE RUNWAY ENVIRONMENT AND GROUNDLOOPED RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT FINALLY SETTLED APPROXIMATELY 320 FEET EAST OF THE RUWNAY. I WAS INFORMED THAT AT THAT TIME THE WIND WAS SHIFTING TO THE NORTH. THE LEFT GEAR LEG SEPARATED DURING THE GROUNDLOOP AND STRUCK THE LEFT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER CREATING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE TAIL SECTION. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA609](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA609), Sep 26, 2009: Aeronca 11AC (N9204E), Augusta, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control while landing with a quartering tailwind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
