## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) AND TWO PASSENGERS DEPARTED ROBERTS FIELD, OREGON (RDM) ON OCTOBER 1, 2009 FOR AN OVERNIGHT TRIP TO PISTOL CREEK AIRSTRIP, IDAHO. THE PIC ELECTED NOT TO REFUEL THE AIRCRAFT DURING ANY PART OF THE TRIP. DURING THE RETURN LEG TO RDM, THE AIRPLANE EXPERIENCED A POWER LOSS OVER THE RUGGED OCHOCO NATIONAL FOREST. THE SUBSEQUENT FORCED LANDING DESTROYED THE AIRCRAFT AND SERIOUSLY INJURED ONE OF THE PASSENGERS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10LA001](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10LA001), Oct 2, 2009: Cessna 180 (N1621C), Mitchell, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s lack of understanding of the airplane’s fuel system, which resulted in a loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
