## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT ELECTED TO DEPART THE MIDDLE PENINSULA REGIONAL AIRPORT (FYJ), WEST POINT, VA TO LAND AT A FRIENDS FARM APPROXIMATELY 12 NM AWAY FROM THE AIRPORT. WHILE ENROUTE, THE ENGINE QUIT DUE TO FUEL EXHAUSTION AND THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND ON A ROAD. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK AND SEVERED A TELEPHONE LINE THAT WAS STRUNG ACROSS THE ROAD AND LANDED UPRIGHT WITH SUBSTANTAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)
