## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THIS AIRCRAFT (HEREAFTER REFERRED TO AS THE LEAD AIRCRAFT) IS ONE OF TWO AIRCRAFT INVOLVED IN A MID-AIR COLLISION. THE TWO WERE PERFORMING A FORMATION FLIGHT, "LOW FLY-BY" OF THE RUNWAY AT THE PINEVILLE, LOUISIANA AIRPORT DURING AN EAA FLY IN. UPON A RIGHT TURN OUT AT THE END OF THE FLYBY, A MISCOMMUNICATION OCCURED BETWEEN THE PILOTS OF THE TWO AIRCRAFT, WHICH RESULTED IN THE LEAD AIRPLANE OF THE TWO AIRCRAFT FORMATION FLIGHT TURNING HARD RIGHT, CAUSING THE SECOND AIRCRAFT, IN THE 5 O'CLOCK POSITION RELATIVE TO THE LEAD AIRCRAFT, TO FLY DIRECTLY INTO THE LEAD AIRCRAFT, CAUSING A PROPELLER STRIKE OF THE LEADING EDGE OF THE RIGHT HAND WING AN SEVERING THE TAIL OF THE LEAD AIRCRAFT. BOTH AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A HEAVILY WOODED AREA, WITH TWO FATALATIES IN THE LEAD AIRCRAFT, AND SERIOUS INJURIES SUSTAINED BY THE OCCUPANTS OF THE SECOND, TRAILING AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10FA011](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10FA011), Oct 10, 2009: Cessna 150F (N8642S), Alexandria, LA, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: Failure of the wingman to maintain proper separation from the lead airplane during formation maneuvers. Contributing to the accident was lead's abrupt right bank and both pilots' lack of formation…

## Other reports on N8642S (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19960302012179A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19960302012179A), Mar 2, 1996: Cessna 150F (N8642S), Jasper, TX. Person walking around aircraft to embark was struck by the idling propeller. Not cautioned by pilot to avoid same.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
