## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS ON A SCENIC FLIGHT WITH A PASSENGER. PILOT STATED THAT AS HE BEGAN HIS DESCENT THE AIRCRAFT LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE STOPPED. PILOT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART SEVERAL TIMES. AIRCRAFT LANDED IN AN AREA OF RECENTLY BURNT TREES, IMPACTING ONE OF THEM AND DAMAGING THE FUSELAGE AND RIGHT WING SPAR. PILOT STATED THAT HE HAD MORE THAN HALF A TANK OF FUEL LEFT (OVER 10 GALLONS) AND THE AIRCRAFT BURNT APPROXIMATELY 6 GALLONS PER HOUR. THE AIRCRAFT CRASH LANDED IN A WILDERNESS AREA OF ZION NATIONAL PARK AND IS INACCESSIBLE AT THIS TIME.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10LA021](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10LA021), Oct 17, 2009: Aerotrike Naked Cobra (N10LK), Virgin, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power during cruise flight for undetermined reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
