## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT WAS LANDING ON A PRIVATE GRASS AIRSTRIP (MT). PILOT OVERFLEW AIRSTRIP AND CONFIRMED WIND DIRECTION WITH THE WIND SOCK LOCATED ON THE FIELD. UPON LANDING THE RIGHT WING ROSE SHARPLY FORCING THE LEFT WING DOWN STRIKING THE GRASS SURFACE. PILOT PUT IN FULL CONTROL MOVEMENT TO BRING THE LEFT WING UP. PILOT STOPPED THE AIRCRAFT AND INSPECTED FOR DAMAGE. PILOT LOOKED AT THE WIND SOCK AND IT WAS 180 DEGREES OPPSITE FROM WHAT IT WAS ON LANDING.METAR AND TAF REPORTS INDICATE A WIND SHIFT AT GTF SHORTLY BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. THE GRASS AIRSTRIP IS APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES EAST. AIRCRAFT DAMAGE CONSISTED OF LEFT AILERON TE TIP, LEFT WING TIP, AND AFT 3 FEET OF TRAINING EDGE WING NEAR THE WING TIP. NO APPARENT SPAR DAMAGE WAS OBSERVED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10CA024](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10CA024), Oct 18, 2009: Cessna A185F (N1677R), Sand Coulee, MT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during landing with a crosswind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
