## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE LANDING ON RUNWAY 28 AT THE BERMUDA DUNES AIRPORT, THE LEFT WINGTIP OF THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT ROTATED 180 DEGREES ON THE RUNWAY SURFACE, DAMAGING THE PROPELLER AND SHEARING OFF THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR. AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT, THE WIND WAS COMING FROM THE WEST EQUAL TO OR LESS THAN 10 KNOTS. THE PILOT REPORTED A STRONG GUST OF WIND FROM HIS RIGHT (FROM THE NORTH). THE PILOT REPORTED THE AIRCRAFT CONFIGURATION AS GEAR DOWN, FLAPS FULLY ENTENDED, AT AN AIRSPEED BETWEEN 50-60 MILES PER HOUR AND AT AN ALTITUDE OF 5-10 FEET. DUE TO THE AIRCRAFTS AIRSPEED AND ALTITUDE DURING THE LANDING FLARE, THE PILOT REPORTED HE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO INITIATE A GO AROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10CA038](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10CA038), Oct 29, 2009: Mooney M20F (N400EB), Palm Springs, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for gusty crosswind conditions and his failure to maintain directional control.

## Other reports on N400EB (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19820731042049I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19820731042049I), Jul 31, 1982: Mooney M20F (N400EB), Ephrata, WA, Minor damage. Engine lost power in climb when #1 exhaust valve, 73111, failed, holed piston. Pilot landed in field, gear up.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
