## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT DEPARTED CALDWELL, ID AIRPORT (EUL) APPROXIMATELY 1330 LCL TIME WITH A FLIGHT INTSRUCTOR (C.DAVIS) AND STUDENT (R. COX)TO COMPLETE THE REQUIREMENTS OF SFAR 73-ROBINSON R-22/-44 SPECIAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS. THE PLAN WAS TO PERFORM A PINNACLE APPROACH AND LANDING. THE PINNACLE WAS ABOUT 3500 MS. AFTER PERFORMING A HIGH AND LOW RECONNAISSANCE OF THE LANDING SITE, THE AIRCRAFT APPROACHED THE PINNACLE WITH A NORTHWEST HEADING. APPROXIMATELY 50 TO 70 AGL THE INSTRUCTOR CALLED FOR A "GO-AROUND" DUE TO HIGH IAS (40 KTS) AND DESCENT RAT (400 FPM). UPON INITIATING THE GO-AROUND THE CREW EXPERIENCED A LACK OF POWER, DECREASED ROTOR RPM AND AN INCREASED SINK RATE. THE INITIAL IMPACT WAS HARD, THE AIRCRAFT PITCHED AND ROLLED FORWARD. THE INITIAL MAIN ROTOR STRIKE WAS AT THE 11:00 POSITION. THE LEFT SKID DROVE INTO THE GROUND. SIMULTANEOULSLY THE MAIN ROTOR TORQUE CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO "FLIP" TAIL OVER NOSE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON THE LEFT SIDE, FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10CA042](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10CA042), Oct 31, 2009: Robinson Helicopter R22 Beta (N74607), Marsing, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate main rotor rpm during the approach and subsequent go-around and the certified flight instructor's inadequate supervision of the flight.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
