## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON NOVEMBER 7, 2009, N22896, A CESSNA 150H, DEPARTED MOTON FIELD, TUSKEGEE, AL (K06A) FOR FAYETTEVILLE, TN (KFYM), AN INTERMEDIATE FUEL STOP, ENROUTE TO BLOOMINGTON, IN, TO OVERNIGHT. AFTER THE AIRCRAFT WAS FUELED, HE DEPARTED KFYM FOR BLOOMINGTON, IN (KBMG). AT APPROXIMATELY 1715 LOCAL, WHILE ENROUTE, THE PILOT STATED IT WAS GETTING DARK, SO HE ELECTED TO LAND AT PAOLI, IN (KI42) AND OVERNIGHT THERE INSTEAD OF KBMG. HE FLEW OVER THE PAOLI AIRPORT AND DETERMINED THE WINDS WERE OUT OF THE SW, BASED ON THE WINDSOCK, AND ENTERED THE TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR RUNWAY 20, A 2773' X 50' ASPHALT RUNWAY. DURING THE LANDING FLARE, HE REPORTED THAT A GUST OF WIND BLEW THE AIRCRAFT TO THE LEFT AND HE ELECTED TO EXECUTE A 'GO-AROUND' MANEUVER. HE STATED THAT HE PUSHED THE THROTTLE IN TO BEGIN THE 'GO-AROUND' AND THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS SLOW TO RESPOND. HE SAID THAT THE LANDING GEAR TOUCHED TWICE AND HE ENCOUNTERED ANOTHER GUST OF WIND, WHICH THEN BLEW THE AIRCRAFT AWAY FROM THE RUNWAY TO THE EAST AND INTO A WOODED AREA. THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED SEVERAL TREES, SUSTAINING SEVERE DAMAGE, AND CAME TO REST IN A 'WINGS-LEVEL' ATTITUDE, BETWEEN TWO (2) TREES. THE PILOT WAS UNINJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10CA045](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10CA045), Nov 7, 2009: Cessna 150H (N22896), Paoli, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
