## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 11/21/09 AT APPROXIMATELY 1315 PST AIRCRAFT N7JX, A LANCAIR, WAS INBOUND TO SAN CARLOS AIRPORT, SAN CARLOS, CA WHEN THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED AN ENGINE FAILURE AT APPROXIMATELY 10,000 FEET. THE PILOT CALLED OAKLAND FLIGHT WATCH ON FREQUENCY 122.0 AND REPORTED HE HAD AN ENGINE FAILURE WITH SMOKE AND FIRE IN THE COCKPIT. THE PILOT ALSO REPORTED HE HAD THE WATSONVILLE AIRPORT IN SIGHT AND WOULD TRY TO LAND THERE. AT 5500 FEET THERE WAS NO FURTHER CONTACT WITH THE AIRCRAFT. AIRCRAFT WAS REPORTED CRASHED IN AN APPLE ORCHARD 1/4 MILE FROM FINAL APPROACH FOR RUNWAY 20 AT THE WATSONVILLE AIRPORT.
