## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (PILOT OF N9600P) BRIEFED MR. DALE MASTERS (GLIDER INSTRUCTOR) PRIOR TO THE TOW ABOUT THE WIND CONDITIONS. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THE WIND WAS FROM THE SOUTH AT ABOUT 15 KNOTS AND THAT IT WAS GUSTING BUT HE COULD NOT TELL HOW MUCH. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ATTACHED THE TOW ROPE TO THE GLIDER AND WAS GIVEN THE SIGNAL TO START THE TOW. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED HE APPLIED THE PROPER CONTROL INPUTS FOR A LEFT CROSSWIND AND STARTED THE TAKEOFF, AT APPROXIMATELY 30 KNOTS THE LEFT WING STARTED TO RISE AND THE AIRCRAFT BECAME AIRBORNE AND WAS ROLLING TO THE RIGHT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED HE WAS ALMOST AT FULL LEFT CONTROL STICK, THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUE TO ROLL AND ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ RELEASED THE GLIDER FROM TOW. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUE TO ROLL UNTIL IT WAS 90 DEGREES RIGHT WING DOWN. THE RIGHT WING STRUCK THE GROUND AND DUE TO THE DUST. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ COULD NOT LONGER SEE OUTSIDE THE AIRCRAFT AND WHEN THE DUST SETTLED THE AIRCRAFT WAS SETTING ON THE GROUND FACING THE SAME DIRECTION AS THE TAKEOFF DIRECTION (WEST).

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10CA067](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10CA067), Nov 27, 2009: Piper PA-25-260 (N9600P), Llano, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for the gusting crosswind conditions and failure to maintain lateral and directional control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
