## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

CREW SAW THE #1 ENGINE OIL FILTER BYPASS ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT COME ON DURING CRUISE FLIGHT, CREW FOLLOWED QRH PROCEDURE AND REDUCED POWER TO IDLE, TO SEE IF BYPASS LIGHT WOULD GO OUT. THE LIGHT DID NOT GO OUT, SO CREW COMPLETED INFLIGHT SHUT DOWN PROCEDURES PER THE QRH. EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED, AIRCRAFT DIVERTED TO HLN, & LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE MAIN OIL FILTER WAS FOUND TO HAVE METAL FLAKES. THE #1 FWD CHIP DETECTOR HAD SMALL METAL PIECES, 1/16" TO 1/8". THE METAL FOUND WAS A MIX OF FERROUS, NONFERROUS AND COPPER/BRASS. THE ENGINE WAS REMOVED, BASED ON TOO MUCH METAL PRESENT IN THE OIL FOR AN OIL SYSTEM FLUSH AND RUN CHECK.
