## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STATED THAT HE DID NOT INTEND TO FLY; HOWEVER, THE AIRCRAFT BECAME AIRBORNE AND WITH INSUFFICIENT RUNWAY REMAINING TO LAND, DECIDED TO REMAIN AIRBORNE. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT ACCELERATING AS EXPECTED AND HE DECIDED TO PERFORM A 180-DEGREE TURN TO RETURN TO THE RUNWAY. DURING THE TURN, THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN DESCENDING AND THE PILOT STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO ABOUT IT. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A WINGS LEVEL ATTITUDE COLLAPSING THE LANDING GEAR, BREAKING AND DEFORMING THE WING LIFT STRUTS, DAMAGING THE ENGINE COWLING AND COMPRESSING THE FUSELAGE AT THE PILOT'S FEET AND UNDER THE SEAT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10CA089](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10CA089), Dec 28, 2009: Lyman Randall/Scott David Avid Flyer (N491DS), Eldon, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inability to climb or maintain proper airspeed due to the improper pitch setting of the propeller.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
