## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DID NOT OBTAIN PREFLIGHT WX BRIEF. WINDSOCK VERY WORN & GIVING INACCURATE READINGS. WINDS WERE APPROXIMATELY 12-14 KNOTS FROM 210 DEGREES BUT THE WORN WINDSOCK WOULD NOT ACQUARATELY SHOW THIS. RUNWAY WAS PLOWED APPROXIMATELY HALF OF ITS WIDTH SO THAT SKI PLANES COULD LAND ON THE OTHER HALF. TO AVOID THE NEED TO TURN AROUND ON A NARROW RUNWAY TO BACK-TAXI TO HIS HANGER, PILOT LANDED DOWNWIND ON SNOW & ICE COVERED RUNWAY 18. WHEN PILOT FINALLY REALIZED HE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO STOP BY END OF RUNWAY, IT WAS TOO LATE TO DO A GO-AROUND. HIT SNOWBANK AT END OF RUNWAY AND FLIPPED AIRCRAFT OVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10CA094](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10CA094), Jan 10, 2010: Engineering & Research Ercoupe 415-CD (N94670), New London, WI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's decision to land with a tailwind on the snow- and ice-covered runway.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
