## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

BASED ON WEATHER OBSERVATION OF TEMPERATURE 4C, DEWPOINT -6C AND RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 50 %, CONDITIONS CONDUCIVE TO CARBURETOR ICING WERE PRESENT DURING FLIGHT. THE PILOT WAS MANEUVERING TO TAKE PICTURES. THE FLIGHT REGIME OF SLOW FLIGHT VARYING POWER SETTINGS ALSO WERE A FACTOR. AT THE TIME OF ENGINE POWER LOSS, RPM WAS REDUCED TO APPROXIMATELY 1900 AND CARBURETOR HEAT WAS NOT INITALLY APPLIED. PILOT COMPLETED BIENNIAL FLIGHT REVIEW ON 12/06/2009

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC10TA017](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC10TA017), Feb 11, 2010: Piper PA-18-150 (N278Z), King Cove, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power due to the pilot's failure to use carburetor heat in conditions conducive to carburetor ice.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
