## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON FEBRUARY 12, 2010, AT APPROXIMATELY 1355 CST, A PIPER CHEYENNE (PA-31T), CRASHED APPROXIMATELY ONE HALF MILE S/SW OF THE FOREST CITY AIRPORT (FXY). THE AIRCRAFT WAS CLEARED FOR THE APPROACH TO RUNWAY 33, AND AT APPROXIMATELY 600 FEET THE AIRCRAFT MADE A HARD LEFT BANK, LOST ALTITUDE AND IMPACTED THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT WINGS, ENGINES, PROPELLERS, AND NOSE WHERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED ON IMPACT, ABOUT FORTY PERCENT OF THE FUSELAGE AND THE TAIL SECTION WAS STILL INTACT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 175 FEET FROM INITIAL IMPACT POINT. ACCORDING TO THE EYE WITNESS, THE AIRCRAFT WAS SPOTTED ON FINAL APPROACH IN WINGS LEVEL FLIGHT, THEN IT BANKED HARD LEFT AND ENTERED A STEEP VERTICAL DESCENT UNTIL IT WAS OUT OF SIGHT. THE PILOT WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT ON BOARD, AND HE WAS FATALLY INJURED IN THE MISHAP.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10FA119](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10FA119), Feb 12, 2010: Piper PA-31T (N250TT), Forest City, IA, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airplane control during final approach.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
