## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

INVESTIGATION OF THE ACCIDENT ON SCENE FOUND NO MEASURABLE AMOUNTS OF FUEL IN THE FUEL TANKS. NO SIGNS OF FUEL SPILLAGE OR GROUND CONTAMINATION WAS EVIDENT. WITNESS STATEMENT FROM A SHERRIFF POSSE SEARCH AND RESCUE STATED MR. BLANCHETTE THOUGHT HE RAN OUT OF GAS OR HAD A FUEL LEAK. FURTHER INVESTIGATION OF THE FUEL SYSTEM FOUND THE FUEL STRAINER TO BE 95 PERCENT FULL OF RUSTY WATER AND 5 PERCENT CLEAR AUTO SMELLING FUEL. THE FUEL SCREEN WAS 25 PERCENT OBSTRUCTED WITH RUSTED TYPE CONTAMINANTS. THE FUEL BOWL CONTAINED RUST AND NOTICABLE LARGE PARTICLES AND CONTAMINANTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10LA166](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10LA166), Mar 17, 2010: Kjonaas Varieze (N50894), Casa Grande, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power during cruise flight due to fuel exhaustion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
