## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MARCH 27, 2010, AT APPROXIMATELY 1450 PACIFIC DAYLIGHT TIME , N5880R, A CESSNA 172G, PILOTED BY PRIVATE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, INBOUND TO ANACORTES AIRPORT (74S) FROM THE EAST, DECLARED A "MAYDAY" AFTER AN ENGINE FAILURE AND ELECTED TO LAND IN A FIELD A FEW MILES EAST OF THE AIRPORT (74S) AND COLLIDED WITH POWER LINES, FLIPPING THE AIRCRAFT ONTO ITS BACK PRIOR TO IMPACTING THE FIELD. THE PILOT, THE SOLE PERSON ONBOARD, WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED AND THE AIRPLANE WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10LA182](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10LA182), Mar 27, 2010: Cessna 172G (N5880R), Anacortes, WA, no damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate fuel planning, which resulted in a loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
