## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

N217AT, BUSHBY MUSTANG II HOME BUILT, GROUND LOOPED ON LANDING AT APPLE VALLEY AIRPORT RUNWAY 18. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN IN A THREE POINT ATTITUDE WITH MR. BRUHNKE RAPIDLY OVER CONTROLLING THE RUDDER CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT'S DIRECTION OF TRAVEL TO BE ERRATIC. MR BRUHNKE APPLIED FULL RIGHT RUDDER THEN FULL LEFT RUDDER CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO SWERVE RIGHT THEN RAPIDLY LEFT. THE CFI (CARAWAY) APPLIED FULL LEFT RUDDER TO CORRECT. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY'S LEFT SIDE, COLLAPSED ITS GEAR AND ROTATED LEFT TO A HEADING OF 330 DEGREES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10CA204](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10CA204), Apr 8, 2010: Mathis Melvin R Bushby Mustang II (N217AT), Apple Valley, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The CFI's inability to overcome the improper control inputs of the private pilot, who was handling the flight controls, which resulted in their loss of directional control during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
