## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE STUDENT PILOT WAS ON HIS SECOND SUPERVISED SOLO. ON THE FIRST APPROACH TO LANDING, THE STUDENT FAILED TO FLARE THE PLANE, AND LANDED NOSE WHEEL FIRST. THE PLANE BOUNCED AND BALLOONED 20-30 FEET IN THE AIR. THE STUDENT THEN INITIATED A GO AROUND PROCEEDURE AND CAME BACK AROUND FOR A SECOND LANDING. THIS WAS NORMAL AND HE TAXIED TO WHERE HIS INSTRUCTOR WAS WATCHING. AFTER TALKING TO THE STUDENT, HE PROCEEDED TO TAKE OFF AGAIN, AND DID TWO MORE LANDINGS BEFORE HE BROUGHT THE AIRPLANE TO THE RAMP AND SHUT DOWN. IT WAS AT THIS POINT THAT THE DAMAGE WAS FOUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA10CA241](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA10CA241), Apr 24, 2010: Cessna 172P (N51231), Wurtsboro, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper flare and recovery from a bounced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
