## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 5-4-2010, THE PILOT AND OWNER OF THE PA-28-200 WAS RECEIVING INSTRUMENT DUAL INSTRUCTION FROM A CFII IN PREPERATION FOR A CHECKRIDE SCHEDULED THE NEXT DAY. THE WINDS WERE GUSTY FROM THE WEST. THE PILOT HAD COMPLETED HIS LAST INSTRUMENT APPROACH AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAND ON RUNWAY 31. THE PILOT CROSSWINDS WERE TOO HIGH TO LAND ON 31, SO HE REJECTED THE LANDING. HE STAYED IN THE PATTERN AND CHANGED HIS RUNWAY TO 19. IN DEALING WITH THE GUSTY CROSSWINDS, THE PILOT FORGOT TO EXTEND THE LANDING GEAR. THE AUTOMATIC GEAR SYSTEM WAS DISABLED FOR THE TRAINING SESSION AND THE GEAR WARNING HORN SOUNDED AT THE LAST SECONDS, AS THE PILOT WAS CARRYING SOME POWER INTO THE ROUNDOUT. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED AND TERMINATED AT YANKTON, SD (YKN) AND THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED ABOUT 1030 CDT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
