## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MAY 8, 2010 AT APPROXIMATELY 1700 MDT, N24502, A PIPER J3 CUB, WAS ON A LANDING ROLL-OUT IN A SOFT, MUDDY FARMER'S FIELD APPROXIMATELY 6 MILES NORTH OF KYLE, SD. AFTER LANDING AND ON ROLL-OUT THE PILOT REALIZED THAT FIELD WAS TOO MUDDY TO LAND IN AND LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO SINK INTO THE MUD AND THEN FLIPPED OVER WHERE IT CAME TO REST UPSIDE DOWN. THE AIRPLANE RECEIVED DAMAGE TO THE RUDDER, PROP, ENGINE, COWLING, RIGHT WING AND STRUT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10CA244](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10CA244), May 8, 2010: Piper J3L (N24502), Kyle, SD, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper touchdown on a soft landing area, resulting in a nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
