## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ONCE OVER RUNWAY 32 FOR LANDING PILOT REALIZED HE WAS TOO HIGH AND TOO FAST. PILOT ELECTED TO LAND, WAS ABLE TO PUT THE AIRCRAFT ON THE RUNWAY AND BEGAN TO APPLY BRAKES. PILOT KNEW HE WAS GOING TOO FAST AND APPLIED MORE LEFT RUDDER THINKING THAT HE WAS APPLYING MORE BRAKE. AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY AND ENTERED A DITCH. FOLDED NOSE LANDING GEAR AND LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR AND STRUCK PROPELLER CAUSING SUDDEN ENGINE STOPPAGE. AFTER PILOT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT HE "LOOKED AT THE AIRPORT WINDSOCK AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS BLOWING FROM A SOUTHWEST POSITION WHICH WOULD MAKE 14 THE PREFERRED RUNWAY."

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10CA349](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10CA349), May 9, 2010: Piper PA-28-151 (N8083C), Webster, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot misjudged his speed and distance during landing, which resulted in an overrun.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
