## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 5/17/2010 AT 2200Z, AT HOPKINSVILLE, KY (HVK), N397MK, AN EXPERIMENTAL AMATEUR BUILT GYROCOPTER WAS TAKING OFF ON RUNWAY 26. DURING THE TAKE OFF ROLL, AIRCRAFT CAUGHT A GUST OF WIND CAUSING THE ROTOR TO STRIKE THE GROUND AND AIRCRAFT TO ROLL OVER ON ITS LEFT SIDE DAMAGING AIRCRAFT AND PILOT SUSTAINED A BROKEN ARM.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA10CA270](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA10CA270), May 17, 2010: Healy RAF 2000 (N397MK), Hopkinsville, KY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s overcompensation for gusting wind conditions during the takeoff roll, which resulted in a loss of control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
