## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE ENROUTE FROM RIR TO O22, AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED POSSIBLE ENGINE PROBLEM AND SUCCESSFULLY LANDED IN AN OPEN FIELD AREA IN THE SOUTHEAST SECTION OF BAKERSFIELD, CA. STATEMENTS FROM THE PASSENGER AND FROM A WITNESS STATED THERE WAS AN ISSUE CONCERNING THE SELECTION OF THE PROPER FUELED WING TANK. PER STATEMENTS FROM THE PASSENGER AND WITNESS, MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED ON THE FUEL SELECTOR VALVE. UPON COMPLETION OF MAINTENANCE, THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED FROM THE OPEN FIELD AREA TO THE WEST. ON CLIMB OUT, THE AIRCRAFT PERFORMED A TURN TO THE LEFT (SOUTHERLY HEADING) AND WITNESS STATED THE ENGINE STARTED TO MAKE SPUTTERING SOUNDS. WITNESS STATED THE AIRCRAFT IMMEDIATELY TURNED BACK TO THE OPEN FIELD BUT DURING THE TURN BACK, THE AIRCRAFT RAPIDLY LOST ALTITUDE AND THE LEFT WING STRUCK THE GROUND. AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED ON IMPACT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10LA252](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10LA252), May 21, 2010: Luscombe Silvaire S-LSA-8C (N599LS), Bakersfield, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's continued operation of the airplane with known mechanical deficiencies, which resulted in a loss of engine power due to fuel starvation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
