## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE ATP RATED PILOT WAS REPOSITIONING THE AIRCRAFT FROM WINTERSET, IA (3Y3) TO DES MOINES, IA (DSM) AFTER THE AIRCRAFT HAD JUST HAD AN ANNUAL INSPECTION COMPLETED. WITHIN MINUTES AFTER TAKE OFF, OIL PRESSURE WAS LOST, THE ENGINE SEIZED AND THE PILOT MADE AN OFF-AIRPORT EMERGENCY LANDING CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT, THE SOLE OCCUPANT WAS NOT INJURED. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT DURING THE ENGINE OIL CHANGE A DRAIN HOSE ATTACHED TO THE QUICK DRAIN WAS LEFT IN PLACE. WHEN THE NOSE WHEEL RETRACTED, IT CONTACTED THE HOSE, THUS OPENING THE QUICK DRAIN AND DUMPING THE ENGINE OIL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
