## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN WAS ENROUTE TO HZE AIRPORT AT 6000 FEET. THE AIRMAN STATED THAT HE WAS THEN CLEARED FROM 6000 FEET TO DECEND TO 5000 FEET FOR THE INSTRUMENT APPROACH TO HZE WHEN HE NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE DID NOT SOUND RIGHT. THE AIRMAN STATED THAT HE STARTED TO LOOSE AIRSPEED AND NOTICED THE LACK OF RESPONSE WHEN APPLYING ADDITIONAL THROTTLE. THE AIRMAN ADVISED ATC OF THE LOSS OF POWER. THE AIRCRAFT DESCENDED THROUGH IMC AND BROKE OUT IN VFR CONDITIONS AT APPROXIMATELY 1800 FEET AGL. THE AIRMAN STATED THAT HE SAW TWO GRAVEL ROADS AHEAD. HE THEN LIGNED UP WITH THE ROAD CLOSER TO HIS FLIGHT PATH TO LAND ON. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN AND CAME TO A STOP ON THE ROAD AND CAME TO A STOP ON AN UNIMPROVED TRAIL WITHOUT DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT: IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE CABLE WAS PROPERLY INSTALLED BUT HAD BROKEN AT THE SWAGED TIP WITHOUT SIGNS OF NOTICEABLE DAMAGE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
