## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS CONFIGURED WITH ITS FLAPS UP AND WAS IN STRAIGHT, LEVEL AND LOWER THAN NORMAL, AS IT APPROACHED THE COVEY TRAILS AIRPORT. AT ONE POINT WITTINESS SAID THE AIRCRAFT HAD TO POP UP TO GO OVER 42 FOOT POWER LINES, BEFORE CONTINUING IT'S FLIGHT PATH. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THE CANOPY CAME OPEN, BUT THE CANOPY LATCH APPEARED TO BE IN WORKING CONDITION. THE AIRCRAFT THEN NOSED OVER AND COLLIDED WITH THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE GROUND IN A NOSE DOWN ATTITUDE, WHICH RESULTED IN THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSING AND DEFORMING THE BOTTOM OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE IMPACT CAUSED REAR ATTACH POINTS, OF THE WINGS TO BREAK AND THE TIPS OF THE WINGS TO MOVE FORWARD. THE PLANE SLID INTO A TRAILER AND THE CANOPY BROKE AWAY FROM THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10FA278](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10FA278), May 29, 2010: Evektor Aerotechnik Sportstar Plus (N121EV), Richmond, TX, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The opening of the cockpit canopy in-flight due to improper latching, which resulted in a loss of control and impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
