## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STATED THAT HE APPROACHED RUNWAY 10 AT POSSIBLY A HIGHER THAN NORMAL SPEED AND LANDED LONG, APROXIMATELY 1/2 WAY DOWN THE RUNWAY. THIS RESULTED IN A POOR LANDING IN WHICH THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED. THE PILOT APPLIED BRAKING, BUT CONTINUED TO DRIFT TO THE LEFT, DEPARTING THE RUNWAY THROUGH THE GRASS AND ACROSS THE EASTERN MOST PORTION OF ALPHA TAXIWAY INTO THE AIRPORT PERIMETER FENCE. THE LEFT WINGTIP STRUCK 4 POSTS OF THE CHAIN LINK FENCE, ULTIMATELY PIVOTING ON THE 4TH POST. THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT WENT INTO THE FENCE, STOPPING THE PROPELLER AND CAUSING SOME DAMAGE TO THE NOSE AREA. THE OUTER MOST PORTION OF THE LEFT WING, APROXIMATELY 3 FEET IN LENGTH, WAS SIGNIFICANTLY DAMAGED. THERE WAS A CROSSWIND OF APROXIMATELY 7 KNOTS AT AN 80 DEGREE ANGLE FROM THE RIGHT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA10CA303](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA10CA303), Jun 2, 2010: Piper PA-28-181 (N47661), Block Island, RI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s loss of directional control during landing, which resulted in a runway excursion and collision with a fence.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
