## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT ABANDONED INITIAL ATTEMPT FOR A LANDING ON RUNWAY 36. THE PILOT CONDUCTED A CLOSE-IN AND UNSTABLE APPROACH TO RUNWAY 18. THIS APPROACH INCLUDED THE USE OF SPOILERS JUST PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN AND BELOW 100' AGL, FOLLOWED BY A SUBSEQUENT TOUCHDOWN MORE THAN HALFWAY DOWN THE 4000' LONG RUNWAY. AFTER TOUCHDOWN THE PILOT WAS UNSURE THE AIRCRAFT WOULD STOP ON THE REMAINING RUNWAY AND OVERRUN. GO-AROUND WAS INITIATED, EYEWITNESS STATES THE AIRCRAFT WAS IN A NOSE HIGH PITCH ATTITUDE THEN THE NOSE SUDDENLY DROPPED JUST PRIOR TO COLLIDING WITH THE TREES. COLLISION WAS MADE WITH A SINGLE REIL WHICH WAS APPROXIMENTLY 18" TALL AND 30' LEFT OF THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE. THE PILOT CLAIMS ENGINE WAS SLOW TO RESPOND TO THROTTLE INPUT. THE PILOT REPORTS NO ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO RECONFIGURE THE AIRCRAFTS LANDING GEAR OR FLAPS AS REQUIRED FOR A GO-AROUND BY THE AIRCRAFT FLIGHT MANUAL (AFM). THE PILOT REPORTS THE AIRCRAFTS MIXTURE AND PROPELLER SETTINGS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PROPERLY SET DURING THE LANDING APPROACH FOR THE SUBSEQUENT GO-AROUND. THE PILOT REPORTS THE AIRCRAFTS SPOILERS WERE STOWED JUST PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN. HOWEVER, AS THE SPOILERS ARE ACTIVATED BY A THUMBSWITCH ON THE PILOTS CONTROL YOKE, THE PILOT IS UNSURE THAT THE SPOILERS MAY HAVE BEEN RE-DEPLOYED DURNING THE GO-AROUND. FINIALLY THE AIRCRAFT ATTAINED AN ALTITUDE OF APPROXIMENTLY 18'-20' (AGL) AND STALLED. IT THEN CONTACTED A TREELINE, FOLLOWED BY SUBSEQUENT IMPACT WITH THE GROUND AND MORE TREES APPORXIMENTLY 30 DEGREES NOSE LOW AND 20 DEGREES LEFT WING LOW.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10CA296](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10CA296), Jun 4, 2010: Mooney M20M (N1054B), Port Clinton, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s delayed decision to abort the landing and his failure to properly reconfigure the airplane during the aborted landing attempt.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
