## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

JUNE 5, 2010, PILOT^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS OUT PRACTICING TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS IN HIS CESSNA 337 AT CUSTER, SD. ON HIS SECOND TAKEOFF, AND ABOUT TWO-THIRDS DOWN THE RUNWAY, HE EXPERIENCED A REAR ENGINE FAILURE. THE PILOT DECIDED TO CONTINUE WITH THE TAKEOFF ROLL BECAUSE HE DID NOT THINK THERE WAS ENOUGH RUNWAY TO STOP ON. AFTER HE ROTATED HE COULD NOT CLIMB AND MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A FIELD ABOUT 4.5 MILES WEST OF THE AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED DAMAGE TO THE LANDING GEAR, FUSELAGE, LEFT WING TIP, LEFT VERTICAL STABILIZER, AND BOTH PROPS WERE BENT. IN THE POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION THERE WAS ONLY 3 OUNCES OF FUEL IN RIGHT MAIN TANK, 3 GALLONS IN THE RIGHT AUX TANK, 14 GALLONS IN THE LEFT MAIN TANK AND 17 GALLONS IN THE LEFT AUX TANK. FUEL GAGE WAS SHOWING THAT THE RIGHT MAIN WAS ½ FULL OF FUEL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN10CA305](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN10CA305), Jun 5, 2010: Cessna 337 (N2267X), Custer, SD, substantial damage. Probable cause: A partial loss of engine power due to fuel starvation as a result of the pilot's inadequate fuel mismanagement.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
