## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

SUBSEQUENT TO TAKEOFF FROM A DRY LAKE BED WITH AN AERO TOW, THE PILOT INTENTIONALLY RELEASED AT ABOUT 1500 FEET AGL. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO OBTAIN THE LIFT NEEDED TO CLEAR THE TERRAIN AND PROCEED TO HIS DESTINATION AIRPORT (NV23) LOCATED ABOUT 10 MILES AWAY. AN EMERGENCY LANDING WAS INITIATED; HOWEVER, DURING TOUCHDOWN, THE LEFT WING TIP CONTACTED THE GROUND WITH A SUBSEQUENT GROUND LOOP. DURING THE GROUND LOOP, THE EMPENNAGE FAILED NEAR THE VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL STABILIZER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR10CA288](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR10CA288), Jun 11, 2010: Burkhart Grob G103C Twin III Acro (N41KP), Minden, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's encounter with an area of degraded lift during cruise flight, resulting in a forced off-airport landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
