## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 15, 2010, AT APPROXIMATELY 08:04 CDT, A PIPER (PA-31T) LANDED GEAR UP ON RUNWAY 031 AT THE SIOUX CITY, IA AIRPORT (SUX). THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED SHELDON, IA BOUND FOR OMAHA, NE. ON APPROACH, THE PILOT SELECTED GEAR DOWN BUT DID NOT GET PROPER GEAR INDICATION, (LEFT MAIN GEAR WOULD NOT EXTEND). AFTER THE PILOT MADE MANY ATTEMPTS TO GET THE GEAR DOWN, WITHOUT SUCCESS, HE REQUESTED SUX FOR LANDING. UPON LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE (PROPELLERS, AND BELLY SKIN), AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED BY ANY OF THE OCCUPANTS. AFTER THE AIRCRAFT LANDED, IT WAS REMOVED FROM THE RUNWAY AND TOWED TO THE RAMP. THE SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR INNER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN DUE TO A MALFUNCTION OF THE DOOR ACTUATOR. UPON INSPECTION, THE ACTUATOR DID NOT REVEAL ANY EXTERNAL VISUAL EVIDENCE OF FAILURE (MALFUNCTION WAS INTERNAL). IT WAS DISCOVERED DURING THE INVESTIGATION THAT THE PILOT DID NOT HAVE A VALID 2ND CLASS MEDICAL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
